Re:Newbie auto-xer

Mike--

As a fellow newbie to the sport you may be interested in what I have
learned as my first season comes to a close. I too was told not to
modify my car as it puts me in with the "rabid" M3's in C street
prepared. OH-NO! Winning or losing is not important to me right
now...you need to determine this for yourself. I'm not collecting
points for an end-of-year trophy--I'm just collecting fun both in the
garage and on the track, experience(which is what ultimately makes you a
better driver), and new friends. I enjoy working on my car and have
gained a lot of experience on the mechanical end of racing by moving my
car out of the stock class. Modifying your car will give you something
to do on those "off" weekends and also make your car more enjoyable for
all your day-to-day driving. So, if you're not worried about points and
you can handle losing for a little while modify your car to your hearts
desire! Even in street prepared, with an M3 you're still a very capable
car and should be able to do well...even as a novice. I've done well
this year...learned a lot about driving hard yet smoothly and taking a
good line around a track. Based on the standings from the last BMW
event there was only ONE car on street tires that posted a better time
than me. That was only my third event too.

If you can have fun w/o winning, and/or you enjoy working on cars and
driving a good car that's been improved forget the classes...do what
makes you happy. All games were meant to be fun...if you can't have fun
don't play, and if you find a way to make it funner for yourself, play
it that way!

Good luck!
