E39: Towing info

Guys,
Does anyone have any experience with towing a trailer with E39 540 or other
BMWs? I know BMW NA does not recommend towing with any BMW models while
BMW in Europe are recommended. I'm getting ready to buy a jek ski and I
need to know if I should use my car to tow it or not.
