<E30><M42>cone filter heat shield

Hiya folks, my you're lookin' particularly helpful today!

I just installed a K&N cone filter on our '91 318is, and I will be making
a heat shield for it (after I move it further forward some, and make a
nicer mount), and I was wondering if anyone has done this already and
could share any tips, advice, and/or templates with me.
I was thinking about having it draw air from under the car (like from
behind the front valence panel by means of some ducting), or making a box
that wraps around and over the filter, and up against the headlight
bucket (like that factory had it), rather that just around the right-hand
side (and sealing with the hood pad).
I have all sorts of aluminum, ABS, and Celtec (expanded ABS foam
board), and neoprene foam for which to make this, and vacuum-forming is
not out out of the question, so fire away, as I will entertain any good
idea.

Spasiba!
