My two cents...

I too was worried about wreckin' my car on the track at BMW and PCA 
events. I called my Nationwide insurance agent and told him exactly what 
I'd be doin' - taking my car out on a race track and learning to drive 
it at extremely high speeds with other cars out on the track with me. He 
assured me that I would be covered. He explained the only way I would 
not be covered would be if it was a competitive/sanctioned racing event. 
So with Nationwide you are covered. Now, keep in mind that a wreck is a 
wreck and if you should happen to crash you can count on your rates 
goin' up!

A friend's experience...

I was out at a Road Atlanta Track Day event August 8 with a couple of 
friends. One of my buds had track experience, but it was his first time 
at Road Atlanta (I think everyone remembers their first Road Atlanta 
experience - especially turn 12!). It was the last run session of the 
day and he was hauling his 318is down the front straight into turn 1. A 
Miata had slowed goin' into the turn and my buddy lifted off the 
throttle and tapped the brakes to avoid hitting him (oops!). As 
expected, the car spun out into the infield, hitting the new concrete 
retaining wall head on at about 65 miles an hour (ouch!). He was 
slightly dazed, but the car was a mess! The whole front end was 
demolished. We thought it was totalled. Anyway, he called his insurance 
company, Geico, and they had it towed from the track and are in the 
process of repairing it (it'll never be the same). Yes, his rates are 
going up and no, he's not being dropped from Geico.

Hope that let's 'ya sleep a little better tonight (but just to make 
sure, call your agent and verify with your company).
