<E28> fuel gage reads too low

 Ever since I replaced the SI batteries in our '85 535, the fuel gage
has read about 1/4 tank low.  The low fuel light still works fine at
the correct fuel level.  I'm thinking that I may have bumped something
when I had the cluster apart.  Is that gage adjustable?  Should I just
bend the needle to point 1/4 tank higher?  Any thoughts are
appreciated.
