The proper amount of oil is just high enough to reach the level of the fill
plug. Not very scientific, is it??!

There's a fill plug on the side that is removed with a rather large hex
wrench. You *will* need some way of pumping fluid _up_ to the fill. Some
people make grease pumps specifically for this sort of manuveur.

Nope. Not unless you're seeing a large leak. But changing the standard
MTF to Red-line MTF is a *wonderful* idea.

This might not be the trans output shaft-- in fact, it's much more likely
that it is coming from the selector shaft seal. Take a closer look see if
the fluid is coming from _above_ the output shaft. If it is, it's a
leaking selector seal shaft, something which happens to almost all E30's
given time. It's not an incredibly difficult replacement, but,
unfortunately, it basically requires disconnecting the exhaust and driveshaft.
