AC problems

I have an 87 535is .  The car will not cool down if the temp outside is
above 85F.  The fan seems to be blowing hard but there is not much wind
coming out of the vents.  They are all open and I understand that the unit
automatically closes the system when you turn on the AC.  The compressor
and the collector were replaced in 96.  I do not know if it was converted
over to the new version of freon.  Sweaty....
