some of you have asked about the possibility of restricting posting to
members of the list.
this facility is indeed available, and has been for sometime, but it does
place an administrative burden on me, the list admin.
however, the recent increase in spam has led me to consider re-instituting
this feature (we ran it several years ago, back when the lists were still
on balltown.cma.com, and it had its hassles.)
i will be installing it, today, on the ihc and bmw mailing lists. these two
lists have been selected because they have borne the brunt of the spam
outbreak, and appear to have been sold on the same mailing list to many
spammers.
this will cause some delays in the transmission of some postings. the
reason for this is simple: some of you are in situations where your
"subscribed" address differs to some extent from the one in your from line.
in such cases, i have to take extra steps to permit your postings through.
we'll just have to work through this as best we can; i will have to
maintain a special list for both ihc and bmw of persons who are permitted
to post despite the address mismatch.
