   Tom, 
	Your sources must not have check the old BMW part microfiche.   I
looked the part up on my viewer and found that it lists 2 different
relays available for the 318i, it also shows the pin arrangements on the
various relays.   The BMW part number you need is  13 63 1 276 264   For
your reference, I took a look at the relay on my early 84 318i.  My car
uses the same relay yours does.  The part number listed on it is  0 280
230 001 (I think you may find that 0 280 230 001 is an updated part
number for 13 63 1 276 264, or else it is just a Bosch part number.)  
Both BMP and Bavarian auto sell this part for about $50.   The newer
12/84-85 relay that you have just aquired sells for about 5 bucks less.
