Regarding the shifter,  the nylon bushings need to be replaced.  Follow the
instructions outlined in the Bently manual.  And since you'll be there, why
not install a short shifter kit.  See the posting "Re:  E28 short shift
kit".  You'll need the Bently manual for that as well.  Regarding the AC,
have you checked the ground on it?
