E36: REVERSE LIGHTS BOTH NOT WORKING - what gives???

  The problem is most likely the switch.  I bought the switch at the dealer 
  for $9, and an independent repair shop wanted $26 installed.  It's on the 
  drivers (US) side of the transmission; with the car about a foot in the 
  air pop off the wire clip, unscrew old switch, install new, replace wire, 
  done in 10 minutes.
