Lots (LOTS) 'o paint dings - advice?

My passenger side paint is unhappy with me. After exploring the infield
of a turn this past weekend, it got hit with either a bunch of gravel or
extremely sharp shards of glass. Either way, the end result is that
there are well over a few dozen paint chips in what used to be very nice
paint. Too many for me to attempt to fix by hand (and it would probably
look real bad, too).

So far I've been to a highly recommended detail shop, and they suggest
airbrushing the chips. I've been advised by someone else that it will
look ok for a year or two, but that it's laquer based paint and will
change color and look bad after a couple of years. Not a good option.

I really don't think I want to explore the "reshoot the whole side"
option - it would be both expensive (I'm guessing here), and I think
color matching would be difficult (the car is Daytona Violet, which is a
metallic color).

So, any good bits of advice? I really want my baby to look shiny and
happy again!

Thanks,
Jason
