Thanks- 318ti A/C GROAR
Fellow digester,
I owe a HUGE thanks to all who replied with the BMW SI Bulletin. After
printing this bulleten out and handing to the dealer, he aknowledged that I
did have a problem after all. In addition I needed my COMPLETE A/C system
rebuilt. Compressor, belts, expansion valve, and line. The problem was a
little more ever than the usuall expansion valve. He also noticed a problem
with the heater's expansion valve and had to replace that. Total time out- 1
week and counting. I think its pretty %$#@'y that the dealer can't diagnose
a problem even while the customer is screaming "I'TS THE EXPANSION VALVE" at
him three weeks ahead of time and told him to order the part....he never did.
However, he did manage to loan me a '97 328 active loaded for the week,
managed to put a little over 890 miles on it and still counting- sucks for
him- it only had 37 miles on it when I got it.
P.S. The dog thought I was nuts when I said he could finally go for a ride in
MY car.
Again thanks again for all the help- I actually had to go back out to the
dealer (a little over an hour drive for me one way) and drive around with the
mechanic, who later admitted he was 70% deaf- so he couldn't hear the "groar'
but he was the most knowladgable out of the entire department- Only guy who
took the time to check the car out- rather than write me off as an over-
critical owner.
