I just got a K&N filter for my Toyota 4x4. Looking at the chart
on the back of the box, it shows flow comparisons for 4 different
filters: Foam, Used K&N, Paper, and a New K&N. What the chart
showed was that a used K&N did not flow as well as paper.
Now this has me thinking...
Do I need to buy a new K&N every X number of miles in order to
gain the benefits? Will the used (even 're-charged') K&N be more
restrictive than paper? The chart says so, at least that's how
I'm interpreting it.
I just cleaned my K&N, and those white cotton fibers aren't so white
any more. It's got a lot of buildup in it.
Maybe the strategy is as Bob Tunnel is eluding to: put in the
K&N for the track, and leave the paper in for the street.
Any thoughts?
