I want to add my $.02 for those (like me) who use a K&N but *don't* have =
the
ram air intake -- check that filter frequently anyway!

I installed my K&N in May just before heading out on a road trip to =
Kansas,
Texas, California, Utah, Michigan, and Georgia before heading back to
Colorado. (Gawd, an M3 is a great cross country road car!) I didn't =
think
to check the filter until just before heading to Nationals last week.

I couldn't believe how much dirt, sand, grit, bugs, twigs, rocks, and =
other
road debris had found their way up to the filter through the normal stock =

induction ducting. The fins were filled to the top with crud and it was
hard to believe *any* air was getting through.

Sure was nice to just give it a thorough cleaning (followed their
instructions to a T) and pop it back in! Just to be safe, I may go back =
to
a paper filter for long cross country trips and toss in the K&N when I =
get
to the track.
