318ti Sport or 318is Sport

I'm ready to place an order for either a '97 318ti Sport or 318is Sport.
However I'd like to know the general opinion on whether the 318is is worth
the extra $5K over the ti.  It seems the rear suspension, interior dash and
weight are the only *major* differences (besides the obvious) between the two.

Does the ti handle better because of less weight, or does the si's better
rear suspension make up for it?  I have driven both cars, but I didn't get a
chance to drive them hard.

Any opinions will be appreciated.
