Reformulated Gas Fuel Hose

I heard on San Francisco Channel 7 news, that BMW NA has instituted a recall
of all their cars back to and including  1989 for replacement of fuel hoses. 
This in apparent response to indications that the new reformulated CA gasoline
causes deterioration of fuel lines, leading to leakage and fires.

Given that my car is a '86 model, I sent an e-mail on Friday to BMW NA asking
if the recall ended at '89 models because that was where BMW NA felt their
liability ended or if prior vehicles would have no problem.

Got to work this morning and found a voice mail reply from "Russel" at BMW NA.
 He  confirmed that there is a fuel hose recall back to '89, but that
engineering had researched the problem and concluded that no problem exists
for earlier model BMWs.
