02 sensor in E34 535i
I recently purchased a 1989 535i and when the car was jacked up, I
noticed that the catalytic converter was removed and that there was no 02
sensor. I believe that the 02 sensor was connected to the catalytic
converter.
I live in the Philippines and the reason why the catalytic
converter was removed is that only this year was unleaded fuel introduced
here. Leaded fuel is the most common so the catalytic converter had to be
removed or it would have been destroyed.
I was wondering about a couple of things:
1. Should I put back the 02 sensor? Will the car run better with it?
2. If I put back the 02 sensor do I also have to put back the catalytic?
3. Does removing the 02 sensor affect how the cars computer box runs
the car?
Another problem is that I still have to look where the previous
owner hid the wires that connect to the 02 sensor
We now have BMW dealership which opened here two years ago and the
service manager claims that all the E34 525i's that they sold locally
didn't have any 02 sensor. Does that mean that it was O.K. for my 02
sensor in the car to be removed?
