New cars use DEXRON 3 in manual trans

The new cars use DEXRON 3 in their manual transmissions. This is much 
thinner than 75w-90 gear oil. 
I imagine that DEXRON 3  improves shift quality at the cost of 
transmission durability.

 Anybody know the pros and cons ?
