I need advice from the handling experts on '02tii set-up for autocross. I
have been successful in events with the '88ix, and finally finished my '72
tii (the real car for this stuff) and took it out the first time yesterday.
Well, it felt like I was driving on marbles the whole way. Very tail happy
(fun, but too much) and generally sliding everywhere. I am pretty familiar
with dynamics of tire pressure changes etc. and played with that, but have
no experience with seriously setting up an 02. No one else here in music
city (Nashville) runs an '02 in SCCA so I can't pick anyone's brain locally.
My exisiting set-up
Street tires (must go) 195/60/14 Michelins, 14x6.5 e30 bbs wheels
Stock sway bars
H&R springs (new)
Bilstein Sports (new)
3.91 (not lsd)
5 sp 320 trans
I know there are many answers to this question, but there has to be a basic
configuration that is pretty tried and true (not rattle your teeth all-out,
but pretty close so I can still enjoy it on the street!). The first obvious
change will be tires ... street tire recommendations???? autocross tire
recommendations ..r1's, hoosier, toyo? tire pressure starting points for
that brand? Help!!!
