E36 M3 Odometer kms and miles, wipers

Does anybody know if there is a way to convert odometer reading from 
miles to kilometres? Something like a switch somewhere in the back of 
the instrument cluster is what I am looking for.

The owners manual explains the way you can program the time interval of 
intermittent wiping. In my car it does not seem to work. Is it 
supposed to work? The interval does change according to road speed 
but it can't be programmed.
