My 1990 E30 (165K miles) has the same problem. It is engine oil. I have replaced
the oil pan gasket (for another reason), and the leak didn't stop. I believe it
is the rear seal.
Until I have to drop the tranny for some reason (clutch, etc), I will probably
live with it.
