<528e> 1988 - Instrument lights

     
     Can anyone suggest an easy method to get to the lights which 
     illuminate the heater fan speed control and air distribution slide 
     levers on a 1988 528e. The Bentley book does not address it directly, 
     but the suggestion is to remove the central console, etc.  This sounds 
     like a long process.  Looking for a short-cut.
