In the owner's manual of my new (96) M3 Lux (Techno Violet/Magma) it specifically says to keep RPMs below 4500 for the first 1240 miles.
It also says to keep speed under 95mph for the same distance. It also says to constantly vary engine and vehicle speed during this time.
There are even instructions for breaking in the parking brake(!).
