OBC and Tach problem

I need some help on this one. Here's the deal. The other day, while driving
my 89 325iC, my tachometer died and the display for my OBC went blank. The
tach will jump every one in a while but that's it. The OBC display is still
lit but it doesn't display anything. Oddly enough, this only happens when the
engine is off. If I turn the key on the display reads fine. As soon as I
start the engine, it goes blank.

My SI lights are dead and I plan on replacing the ni-cads. Could this have
something to do with it?

Also, my radio display is dim on on half of the display window. Is this
related or has anyone had that problem before?
