Leather Seats <misc>
Robert F. Girouard asks how to tell the leather from the vinl portions of BMW
leather seats. Several years ago I attended a seminar by John Paterek, the
preeminent authority on Porsche restoration. The same subject came up and he
said that there is a very easy test. Press the end of your thumb nail into
the leather/vinyl. It the impression takes a while to disappear (more than a
few seconds) you have leather. I tried it on both materials and I didn't
think it worked as well as he claimed. Try it and see what you think. Hint:
Usually, the seating surface is leather while the sides and back are vinyl.
