note that the 02' shifters were changed around 74' to a newer (cheaper)
design...the older shift linkage had two "tophat shaped" bushings
which are replaceable...it's the type with the hex screw that allows
disassembly....the newer style shift linkage has a bushing pressed
into the shifter stub which in not replaceable and you can only get
the bushing by buying a new shifter stub.
metric mechanic makes a version of a replacement shifter stub for the
newer style 02' which has a bronze bushing as opposed to a plastic one...
it's a very good design inprovement over the original....
so if you have the newer setup, you can either try to convert to the old
style or upgrade to the metric mechanic shifter stub....
