530iA engines

Here is my story, sad but true. Last year, with only 7,000 miles on the
odometer, my engine warning light iluminated. I brought the car into
the dealer for service. They claimed that the warning sensor was
triggered by a faulty oxygen sensor. It took them a week to get the
part and replace it.

Thereafter I noticed that the engine temperature gauge ran hot. I also
started to notice a loss in performance and fuel economy. I brought the
car to another dealer for an oil change. They advised me that the prior
dealer had performed an open campaign and replaced both oxygen sensors,
the oil, coolant and the chip that controls the engine firing sequence
and temperature.

BMW claimed that they had to make this modification in all V-8s due to
high sulfur content in the gasoline. I have never used anything but
Chevron premium as we all know that BMW recommends the use of Techron
and premium fuel.

I just brought my 1994 530iA in for its first Inspection. The result -
a total engine replacement. This is very disturbing. The dealer
informed me that they have replaced about 50 engines so far. Has anyone
had a similar experience? Is BMW offering any incentives to buyers of
these defective cars?

I would be interested in hearing from other 530 / 540 / 740 owners
and/or mechanics.
