Value of 524td?

I've got a friend with an '85 524td with a blown engine (rod failure, don't
know the condition of the block yet).  A local mechanic claims a replacement
engine would run around $5000 which is probably about the value of the
entire car with a functional engine.  The whole thing kind of suprised me
since I've always heard good things about the BMW diesel engines.

My question is, does anyone have any idea what the car would be worth as is?
The body is rust free, with around 150k miles.  I know there's some 'td fans
out there somewhere!  The car is in Madison, WI USA.

I'm a big E28 fan myself, and would love to take the car on as a project but
I don't have the time/space/cash.
