Hi guys. I am not sure how many of you read/replied to my posting about the
half-brick I hit on the sump cage the other day. My car has been lowered
considerably( 2in on sump cage), and once I had returned to the office, I
noticed some clear hydraulic fluid dripping from the front of the car,
presumably the power steering pump. Since then, my car has dropped a few
ml's of fluid every day, but has taken about week an a half to go below the
minimum line on the dipsitck in the reservoir. Last night when I was parking
the car, I turned very sharply, and the pump was pissing( sorry - leaking
profusely) oil out. My dad said not to drive it, until it gets fixed in case
it siezes. The car makes a grinding noise when cold, and my dealer said it
would go in a few months. I am told that it is common for older cars when
they are older, and the shaft gets a bit worn. Is this the seal just going,
can it be replaced or better to buy new ???
Options : 1. Top up reservoir R 70 and ride for a while (until harvest comes in)
2. Recon pump R1000 + 3 month warranty
3. Used pump R750 + 7 day guarantee ( NOT !)
4. New BMW OEM pump R1600 excl labour.
Either way its gonna cost, and right now I'm praying its gonna rain $100
bills!!
By the time I would receive a reply (hopefully) I will probably have decided
to go for the new pump anyway.

P.s. I am forced to drive my brother's VW Beetle, with a whale fin on the
back. It's getting quite hot under the wig, false glasses and trenchcoat !
