To any one thinking of something along this line - I noted that not only was
there no fuse in the circuit, but other than the resistance of the fine gauge
wire, nothing to limit the current draw if a short happened (up to the rating
of the fuse if one were installed). So if the wire shorted close to the end
where power was applied, you would have unlimited (unless fused) current
available short circuit to ground. I don't recall what gauge wilre was
originally mentioned, but I looked up 22 gauge copper wire, and it "fuses" at
about 42 amps !!!!! Hot tome in the old town tonight!!!
Let's "think ahead" a bit!!
