"bow-legged"rear wheels

Have a 1986 528e, 74,000mi. If I look at the car from the rear, I notice
that the rear wheels are further apart on the bottom than on the top. The
left rear wheel seems even more pronounced. Have had no noticeable sounds,
no loss in performance, no burning odor. Could it be my shocks are shot or
springs are shot or both. I don't carry any heavy loads in trunk. No sand
etc. Could anyone give me an idea as to what is happening??? Thanks.
