(e23) AC prob

Hello:
	My 82 euro 735i has an AC problem that I've let slide for 
awhile.  But now that my wife and I are going to have to travel through 
the San Joaquin valley to get someplace far, far better, I'd better 
address it.
	The AC works fine as far as blowing and cold air are concerned, 
but it seems unable to blow through the dash vents most of the time.  
Blows through the defroster vents.  Every now and them when I turn it on, 
it will blow through the dash vents for about 30 seconds.  Then the 
airflow will become progressively weaker and correspondingly stronger 
through the defroster vents until it's all defroster again.
	Any ideas?  I really don't want to have to make this drive in my 
wife's Saturn.  I'm 6'3"
