Road accident story

Its sad to witness accidents, and it is very understandable to freak out.

I think people develop some sort of immunity after a few accidents though.
Having driven around Meditteranean roads for years (the most wild and crazy
drivers) I have witnessed many ugly accidents. After having seen nightmarish
accidents, I can say that I can maintain a clear head. I cant claim that I
am not adversly affected by the view of such carnage though.

Last summer I saw a Mercedes hit some old lady who was crossing a 6 lane
wide road in the middle of the night. The Merc was doing more than 100kmh...
you can guess the scene.

What I did was, not to do anything. I called an ambulance from my cellular,
and tryied to get the vital signs of the lady.

Its very dangerous to move any victim of a traffic accident. If nerves are
exposed, a wrong move can lead to paralysis or death. Its very hard to see a
broken neck, and very easy to cut a spinal cord.

best thing to do is wait for an ambulance and not move the victim.

I dont think accidents like that, dampen my spirit though. I never speed in
busy roads and always obey the laws of physics (not the police laws).

If the time comes when I get paralyzed or even die in an accident; so what.
Safety is a relative term (Mr Spock said that - not me) and if you want to be
safe, stay home and watch paint dry (and hope there is no
earthquake, hurricane, burglar, asbestos, falling airplane parts, bombs etc)

To recap , lets draw wisdom from such occurances, but lets keep our spirits
high and enjoy life (no matter how short it may be).
