Unleaded petrol/gas.

We in South Africa have only just had unleaded released here so this is
still a very hot topic with us. The list of which cars can run on unleaded is
very problematic but the rules are fairly simple.
If a car is intended to run on leaded and is run on unleaded then the
lubricating effect of lead on the valve seats is lost and the valves will
cause rapid wear on the seats. In some cars the seats can be replaced with
ones that don't need leaded fuel, in some not. There are some cars that can
run on 2 tanks unleaded and 1 leaded. The rules that apply to each model
should be available from the manufacturer or possibly the oil company. A safe
rule is "if you don't know - don't" as you can do severe damage if the engine
needs leaded and doesn't get it.
