Interior temp sensor.
I can't speak for the 7xx series but I have just had a problem with the
interior temperature sensor on my '91 E30 318i. This is the unit just behind
the dash that controls the temperature of the heating/ventilation. In my case
during a very cold spell (just sods law - not causal) it refused to give me
any hot air. I removed the unit - it has several ICs and a Zener + a fan and
a thermistor. The fan sucks air thru a very small round grill next to the
heater temp knob over a thermistor. In my case the Zener had burnt out. A new
unit was 1280 rands - about $290 but we earn the same number of rands as US
earns $$ so this is very expensive. A new 12v Zener fixed the problem at no
cost. It was quite a fiddle getting this unit out but it can be done without
removing the whole dash and centre console. Hope this helps. DaveE.
