e36 318ti engine oil followup and misc question

Regarding the usage of oil (about a quart every 2-4k miles):  It does not
leak, nor does the exhaust seem overly smokey.  I contacted the dealer and
they recomended that I must have the oil level monitored by them so that if
there is a problem it is well documented.

But since i am leaving town for a few months (6) and leaving my car behind
:<, I will have to take care of it in January.

I did have another question:  Is the gasket problem people are referring to
relate to the engine in the 1995 318ti?
