Elvis' 507
Gents,
There is a brief article on Elvis's car in the Sept '96 copy of a British
car magazine, Classic and Sportcar.
The high points:
1. The car was found in a Philadelphia gargage by a British classic car
dealer, Nick Harley.
2. Car was given to Elvis by BMW while in the Armed Services in Freideberg.
3. It was serial number 70192, which apparently had a previous racing
history in hill climbs with,
who else, at the wheel -- Hans Stuck. The special equipment and hotter
engine was taken out and the car was set back to standard spec before the
"King" got it.
4. Elvis gave it to Ursula Andress in 1963 during the making of Fun In
Acapulco. The article mentions that Elvis found the manual shift
impossible. There is not mention of his attempts to exchange mechanical
gifts for more non-mechanical favors.
5. The car was serviced by the California car customizer and creater of the
Batmobile, The Munster's car, etc. -- George Barris. They resprayed it at
some point and added (tasteful) a tubular chrome bumpers.
6. The car is being restored in England and has been brought back to white
and will be up for auction on August 17 at Monterey.
Anyone find the Isetta he used to go to the corner 7-11??
