E36 Alram problem, what do you do?

experience with his alarm tripping for no apparent reason while the car was
parked.

I had the same problem with my factory alarm ('95 M3).  The problem was
solved by my dealer changing the glass breakage sensor to a less sensitive
setting.  I do not know how this is done.

I believe the sensor was tripping due to "pops and creaks" sounds from the
dash area as it expanded and contracted due to heating from the sun.  I
have never had the problem since, but unfortuanately, now the alarm is less
sensitive to valid "alarming" sounds.

By the way this reminds me of one day when I was washing my car and the 5yr
old neighbor boy who was from a German family (fluent in both languages and
very bright) came by to watch.  I forgot that the alarm was set and when I
opend the car door, it tripped.  The boy ask what the noise was and I
explained, "The alarm went off."  He looked curiously at me and asked,
"Well, when does it go on?"  Hmm, good question.
