When I go to study for my MBA in the U.S. I plan on buying a more
appropriate summer car for track schools. Presently I'm considering
three options: E30 M3 built to the European Evolution II spec, with the
2.5 litre engine and appropriate mods; an E36 M3 Lightweight; or a
'91-92 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (964 body style). Since I plan on using
the car as my only car, winter driving will of course be a
consideration. However, I've heard conflicting opinions on maintenance
costs. Some say that BMW is far cheaper to maintain regularly, while
others maintain that the Porsche is not much more expensive than a BMW.
Who is right?? I plan on using a specialist or tuning shop to do the
maintenance, so dealers are out. But is a Porsche considerably more
expensive to keep in good shape? Any opinions or advice would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
