With Thanks to John Firestone for this reply:

A car gets considerably harder to sell in Germany after 100.000 km.
On average, people drive here a bit more than 15.000 km per year and
tend to fall into two groups: those who buy a new car every 3-4 years,
and those who hold a car for 10-20 years until the TU"V convinces them
it is too expensive to repair.
Used cars sell for about 50% of their original value after 4 years,
with a few notable exceptions, Porsches, for example, and BMW 8ers.
With regards from John.
