I'm not sure what frequencies that NY state troopers use, but you can go
to the 'shack and they have 2" thick frequency books that do nothing but
publish those numbers. bearcat? i'm not familiar w/all their models. mine
is an ICOM IC-R1 which is continuous from about 1Khz to a few
Gigahertz... so not much gets by this thing if you have the right antenna
hooked up to it.
if you really want to know what is going on around you... you need to
purchase a frequency counter. they start at $100 and go up. they
basically will tell you what the strongest signal around you is. this
could be cell phone or the cops or the MacDonald's checkout clerk. again...
check out the shack or a magazine called monitoring times for models and
features. ultimately you hook up the counter to the scanner and let it
all do the work for you.
another thing to keep in mind is that a lot of the traffic in the future,
if not now in certain areas, is digital... and your analog scanner is
meaningless to it.
