What makes BMWs so special/expensive?
-- Attention to detail. Does her minivan slow down the windshield =
wipers when she stops at a traffic light? Does her key-in-the ignition =
reminder know the difference between when she is getting in the car or =
out of it? Are her mini-van headlights bright enough to land aircraft =
by? Can she roll up her windows from *outside* her car? (the list goes =
on and on...)
-- Durability and longevity. You can get replacement parts for almost =
any 20-30 year old BMW -- try that with most equivalent age American =
models. The American car companies still have not gotten far enough away =
from the old 'planned obsolescence' mentality.
-- Comraderie. Unless you want to talk about kids, there is not much =
you are likely to have in common with another minivan driver, but =
talking with a fellow BMW driver... And the minivan clubs have the most =
pathetic autocross events!
Overall, the total value of features, detail, longevity, and convenience =
add up to quite a lot. If you can afford the initial extra cost of a BMW =
over a Ford/GM/Toyota/etc. (or are willing to buy a used BMW), the value =
of all the extra you get is really a bargain.=20
