Thanks for the tip.  I had heard that the fiche copy was available at the 
reasonable price.  However, I like to sit down with a good tech manual and 
read the interesting parts like a good book.  Those fiche readers start to 
dig into your thighs if you prop them up on your lap too long.  (I know, I 
know.... I'm warped, but at least my rotors aren't.)  I think I'll pass on 
the $395 paper version.  For that kind of money, one should be getting the 
manuals for something like a 747 (Boeing, not BMW).
 
BTW, Rodd posted (privately, of course) that he was hoping to obtain some 
original E34 manuals in the near future.
