     Actually,
     
     Wasn't there a thread about thermal breakage problems with the E36 
     foglights?  I believe the test was to try to insert a sharp pencil 
     into the crack in the light.  If there were indentations from the 
     outside, that indicated an impact failure, no coverage.  If the crack 
     was clean on the outside, there was a chance of thermal failure and a 
     warranty replacement.  Hell, it's worth a visit to the dealer.
