Ben replied that the ID48X was rebuilt and basically the same..

I see that Bimmer Parts has a "Perf. distributor" for $130.  That's
fairly reasonable given the damned stock ones cost near that too.  

FWIW:
	Early 320i's were getting good results from using the tii 
distributor (or, for that matter, a good early '68 2002 '048).  The
article I recall was in the early '80's or late '70's Roundel and
was written by a 2002 owner who added "I wish I hadn't done the swap
[on the subject car] because he could now outrun me at Lime Rock." :O
	Korman says he gets like 135 horses from the '77-'79 320i with
a tii distributor and Stahl header. (Stage I?)   I can imagine what a 
nice 10:1 motor would do...

p.s. Hey Ian, those pistons and the cylinder head cleaned up enough to
be reused... I think I'll bore out a block for the pistons and go for it.
