Best car alarm/security device?

Now that I'm in the car alarm mood I have a few questions:

Is there a best car alarm out there?  I have the factory alarm in my 95 M3,
is that enough?

Does anyone know what the "Immobilizer" is?  I see it advertised in the back
of Roundel each month.

Is there anything else I should know that I probably don't?

To some extent I'm not sure whether or not this stuff really helps, but
maybe it does make me feel better.
