E36 tire question

I have a '92 325is, and I need to get new tires for it.  The car came 
with 205/60 15 tires, but the owners manual says 225/55 15 tires are also 
recommended for the Canadian model.  Does anyone know why the wider tire 
might not suit the US model, and if I do get the wider tires, will there 
be any drawbacks?  (I live in California so I don't care about wet 
weather performance).  Thanks
