re: tire sizes for a '95 M3

so ya wanna own a BMW?

  sigh.

a guy I work owns an old Nissan Sentra. he was shocked
when he learned what I paid for a set of tires for the
M5. he recently re-shod his Sentra for ~$120 (sheesh!).

anyway... if you don't mind increasing the tire's
profile by 5% (!), you can put 235/45ZR17 tires on
it - Dunlop SP8000. the tire rack sells them for a bit
over $200. the folks there rate them *very* highly -
excellent in dry and expecially wet. the tire is based
on a formula 1 racing tire.

check it out. since co$t seems to be a concern, also check
the expected tire longevity while you're at it - the Dunlop
has a high life expectancy (especially considering it's a
Z-rated performance (read sticky and short lifespan) tire.

Also, check out what you're going to do to your performance,
braking, etc by decreasing wheel size. Consider the fact that
the car was *designed* to run 17" wheels.
