Re: E36 bleeding

In the FAQ and recent discussions about brake fluid changes, nobody has
mentioned the trick of loosening the brake line nuts to bleed at
intermediat points. It's of course much messier since it's not easy to
catch the expelled fluid. Nonetheless, sometimes it can be useful - like
for the poor bloake who grabbed the ATF (perhaps Thi did mention this trick).

So, question is, could you run the fluid out of the ABS unit on a E36 by
loosening the fittings on the unit (without opening the valve with the Bosch
computer connection)? Does my '92 E34 have the same ABS unit (my brakes
are much better but perhaps still pump up a little)? Can anyone give more
details about the internal plumbing of the ABS units?

| In order to properly bleed the brakes on an E36 3-series
| BMW equipped with ABS (which is all of them in North
| America), it is necessary to open an internal valve within
| the ABS hydraulic unit. A BMW dealer does this by connecting
| the BMW Test/Service unit to a diagnostic plug on the ABS
| unit, then choosing the correct choice from the screen
| menu. Failure to follow this procedure can leave air in
| the system.

| No info on how to DIY this!

This accounts for why my 95 M3 brakes have felt a tad spongy since I
replaced the fluid with Motol. I've bled them twice myself but
